Money, But make it adult: Financial Literacy 2026

UKEC's Financial Literacy initiative equips Malaysian students in the UK and Ireland with practical money management and investing skills through interactive, hands-on workshops.
Overview
Empowering Students Through Practical Financial Education
UKEC's flagship Financial Literacy program equips Malaysian students in the UK and Ireland with essential financial knowledge and practical tools to navigate today's dynamic economic landscape. Focused on key areas such as budgeting, saving, investing, and building sustainable money habits, the initiative delivers structured workshops and interactive sessions designed to support students as they transition into financial independence.
FinLit Workshop: York Edition
Building Healthy Money Habits and First Steps into Investing
Held on 15 February 2026 in collaboration with York MSoc, the workshop delivered a comprehensive, practice-oriented curriculum for attendees:
Realities of Adult Money Management: A candid, experience-based session addressing the challenges of living away from home, covering expense tracking, disciplined budgeting, establishing emergency savings, and avoiding common financial pitfalls.
Introduction to ETF Investing: Delivered by Kancil Capital, this segment demystified diversification and low-cost passive investing, demonstrating how students can begin building investment portfolios via fractional share platforms.
Interactive Gamified Simulation: Participants applied their knowledge in real time through "Build Your Stax," competing against a computer-controlled player to test decision-making under financial pressure.
This progression reflects the UKEC Treasury's strategic push toward hands-on, partnership-driven financial programming across the UK and Ireland.
"Financial literacy is the cornerstone of personal and professional growth."
