What is the MSoc Finance Playbook?
Let's be real: You joined the committee to run amazing cultural events, host epic food fests, and build a community — not to drown in spreadsheets. But here's the truth: Capital is the fuel that makes those missions happen. Finance shouldn't be the reason your society struggles. This playbook helps MSoc committees run better events, secure funding, and avoid any financial disasters.

You joined the committee to build community — not to stress over frozen bank accounts, missing receipts, or awkward "where did the money go?" conversations. This playbook exists so your ideas don't die because of poor financial systems.

What is UKEC Fund?
Running a Malaysian Society isn't cheap. Whether it's MNight, MFest, or an intellectual forum, costs add up fast. The UKEC Fund exists to be your financial safety net — but it's not a free-for-all. It is a structured system designed to help societies that actually need it.

- 2 weeks after, on post-event report and receipts
It's not charity, it's equity
The fund operates on a three-layer funding system designed to be fair, not just equal.
- The base
Layer 1 — Need-based
Priority goes to smaller societies or those with limited bank balances and sponsorship access. If you are a massive MSoc with huge ticket revenues, you might receive less base funding than a smaller regional society.
- The bonus
Layer 2 — Merit-based
Want more money? You have to earn it (see below).
Layer 3 — Emergency reserve
A safety net for when things go wrong, such as sudden venue cancellations or bad weather.
Unlock the "Bonus" — get +15% funding
You can increase your funding allocation by up to 15% by proving you run a tight ship. Each of these achievements adds 5% to your pot.

Submit a perfect post-event report on time.

Partner with other MSocs or UKEC Offices.

Use official UKEC templates (budget planners, and the like).

Be inclusive
Host an event that is culturally representative or intellectually enriching.
The timeline: don't be late!
Funding is strictly time-sensitive. Retrospective applications — asking for money after the event is over — are not supported.
4 weeks before event
Submit your application
Deadline to submit your proposal, budget, and bank statements to the fund contact.
2 weeks before event
UKEC approves or rejects your application
2 weeks after event
Cash is transferred
Only after you submit the post-event report and receipts.
The "Deal Breakers"
Your application will face issues if you ignore these rules.
No personal accounts
Funds must go to an official MSoc bank account. No exceptions.
Break-even only
The fund helps you cover costs, not generate a massive surplus or profit.
Brand it
You must play the UKEC promo video and use the UKEC logo on your marketing materials.
How to apply
Send an email with the subject line UKEC FUND -> [MSOC NAME] -> [EVENT NAME], attaching these three things.
Event proposal
Goals, target audience, impact.
Latest bank or union financial statement
Projected income and expenditure
Your budget.

What is the UKEC Awards?2026
The UKEC Awards 2026 celebrates the achievements and impact of Malaysian Societies (MSocs) across the UK & Ireland. MSocs are invited to submit nominations to showcase their events, growth, and contributions to the student community.

The MSoc Spotlight Series is a UKEC initiative by the Secretariat & Strategies Office that provides Malaysian Societies with a platform to showcase their activities through curated social media content, including posts, reels, and interactive stories.
